General Information
You are a climber and want to visit The Foundry....In order to climb at The Foundry the management considers it is necessary for a participant to be able to perform three basic safety procedures and read, understand and agree to use the centre as decribed in our 'Conditions of use' : To put on a sit harness correctly. To tie on to the rope using a 'figure of eight' or 'bowline' knot having threaded it correctly through the harness. Belay using a belay-device and sit harness correctly. Any climber over 18 years of age can register and commence climbing after having signed a Registration Form declaring themselves competent to perform these procedures, and accepting our Conditions of Use and participation disclaimer. Young Persons (under 18 years)Any climber from 14 to 17 years of age (inclusive) must either be signed in by a registered adult climber, or adopt the Green Card procedure. This involves demonstrating competence in performing the basic safety procedures to a qualified instructor. Demonstration sessions take place on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm: places must be booked in advance, the cost is £5.00. The young person must also provide a Consent Form signed by a parent or guardian. If the young person is under 16 yrs old, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on at least one visit to the centre before, or on the evening of the Green Card Demonstration. The green card does not permit the young person to lead climb or lead belay. For this they must pass the 'Leader Card'. This can be taken at the same time as the Green Card demonstation on Thursday evenings, contact the centre for more information on 0114 2796331. Bringing guestsRegistered climber can bring up to two guests for a climbing session. The competent climber must sign their guests in and agree to provide tuition in the basic safety procedures if their guests are not experienced climbers, and full supervision throughout the session. The registered climber is responsible for their guests' safety and safe behaviour during that time. Any guest who are 18 years and over and competent climbers will be required to register as individual members.
