The Foundry - take advantage of all of this ....
The Foundry the U.K's first dedicated large indoor climbing centre to open in December 1991. Designed by climbers to provide a climbing facility to suit all from beginner to expert. We have added new walls through the years in order to continually improve and upgrade the Centre. Most recently in 2005 and 2006 a new top rope slab area and extension of 'The Wave' bouldering wall with a flat panel 10 to 20 degree section with lots of technical less steep problems set with Bleaustone holds, the walls sponsor. In November 2007 we opened a 40 degree training board in The Furnace climbing hall. This is covered with holds and resin foot features to suit problem creation from font 6b to 8b.
If you are coming to the Peak District to climb why not combine it with a visit to The Foundry and sample our great indoor climbing experience. This website gives you all the information you should need to make you want to visit The Foundry.
- Top rope Walls 25 Top-rope lines providing approximately 100 routes on 2 slabs (7 ropes) vertical wall (5 ropes) and the featured ' Livingstone wall ' (13 ropes) up to 11m in height. These walls are ideal for the beginner providing routes from Severe to E2(F3 - F7a, most routes being in the lower grades.
- The Main Wall - Sponsored by Five Ten , our largest lead wall,it offers great climbing with routes up to 25m in length. It is 13m high and 7m overhanging at its steepest section. There are 60 routes from Severe to E7 (F4 - F8a+) into the Extremes with all quickdraws in place. The climbs follow corners, aretes, tiered overhangs and gentle to wildly overhanging faces, all you need is your rope, boots and chalk bag!
- The Furnace lead wall provides a further 40 routes to 13m in height on a very gently overhanging featured climbing surface with pockets and grooves as well as the usual bolt on holds. Routes from Very Severe to E6 (F4 - F7b+).
- Routes - The majority of the 200+ routes are graded between Severe to E3 (F3 - F7a+), though the Main Wall provides plenty of harder routes for those wishing to train for competitions or those hard routes on the crag. The routes are enhanced by using additional wooden volumes to create a more 3 dimentional replication of the type of features and climbingh movement you get out on the crag
- Bouldering - There are well over 100 set problems within 5 set circuits including kids(font 3a-4c), level 1(font 3a-5b) ,level 2(font5b-6c), level 3(font 6c-7b+) and elite (font 6b+ to 7c+). They are set on various styles of bouldering walls - described below
- The Wave Wall and Bleaustone Wave extension - a 27m long and 4.5m high curvy resin/textured flat ply bouldering wall with around 80 set boulder problems from Font 3 to Font 7c+/8a within 5 set circuits. The Bleaustone extension was added to the original wave in August 06 creating 20 and 10 degree flat ply surfaces with technical problems. The Wave is generally much steeper with more powerful bouldering.
- The Furnace 40 degree training board, built November 07 and original Ben Moon designed S7 Campus board, pull up and dip bars and Moon and Metolius Finger boards - The training board has over 25sqm of climbing surface covered in a range of holds for climbers to create thier own problems and log them in the problem book. The board is suitable for problems from font 6b+/c through to 8a+. The 12 degree section has warm up possibilities and a systems section.
- Traversing corridor , 40m long with added wooden volumes and great range of hold types. Various traverses in each circuit plus a dedicated kids area.
- In all over 1100sqm of climbing surface
